Parent/Family RESOURCE

You suspect a problem, Now What???
You have reason to
suspect or know your child has been using
drugs and/or alcohol.
What’s a parent to
do?
Pursue
The Truth
Don’t
panic. What matters most is pursuit of the
truth. You need to find out how long the use of substances has been
going on,
what types of substances and in what frequency and quantities. Our
children are human. They will lie or
hold back facts in order to avoid your criticism, anger or
disappointment – so
it is important that you help them feel safe in exploring the truth
about what
is going on in their life.
The first
thing you’ll want to do is schedule an
assessment with professionals. Below is a list of local resources that
can give
you confidential support.

The Parent Project
The
tougher it gets to be a kid, the tougher it gets to be a parent!
Gangs.
Drugs. Alcohol. Family disintegration.
Our kids
face unprecedented pressures and problems. No wonder so many of them
have given
up resisting society’s ills and started reflecting them. While this may
explain
their difficult,
defiant or destructive behavior, it doesn’t excuse it. Parents need to
learn
effective prevention and intervention techniques in order to help their
children swim against the tide and grow into safe and competent adults.
Parent
Project offers effective classes helping
parents deal with strong willed children. |
